Reno
StrangersReno is the setting of a disturbing episode in Zebediah Lomack’s house that first appears to involve animated moon images and a poltergeist. As Dominick Corvaisis later reconstructs what happened, the episode becomes an early clue that he himself may have been using a power he did not know he possessed.
The house and the moon images
While wandering through Zebediah Lomack’s house, Dominick grew increasingly frustrated by the mystery surrounding it. He wanted to hurry through the rooms and tear the paper moons from the walls. Instead, the moons came down without his hands touching them. When he shouted for the activity to stop, the pictures fell to the floor, and he took the sudden quiet as evidence that something in the house had heard and obeyed him.
A revised explanation
Ginger later proposed a different reading of the Reno episode: Dominick’s frustration had released his own latent power, and his shout had stopped the disturbance. In that account, the apparent poltergeist was not an independent presence but an effect of Dominick’s unconscious ability. The explanation remains part of the characters’ developing theory about their powers, rather than a description of what Dominick understood at the time.
The story of Reno reaches Tranquility
On Saturday night, after Dominick arrived at the Tranquility Motel, he recounted the moon photographs’ apparent animation to the Blocks. Leland Falkirk and his surveillance experts monitored the conversation and initially dismissed the story as feverish confusion. Reno’s episode thus enters the investigation twice: first as a frightening mystery inside Lomack’s house, and later as evidence that helps the witnesses and their observers reconsider what Dominick can do.
