Black dagger
TideThe black knife is a dark, finely shaped weapon whose sudden appearance draws Galahad toward Meira and turns their encounter into a moment of grave, unspoken significance. Its physical menace is matched by the invisible shadows he senses twisting around it.
Appearance and Handling
Meira draws the knife from her pocket. It is made of black metal that sparkles in the lamplight, with a curved handle suited to a woman’s grasp and a slender, wicked-looking blade. She holds it in both hands and gazes gravely at it before lowering her head and laying it on the table. The knife clicks against the surface, and she releases it.
Galahad’s Reaction and Significance
The blade captures Galahad’s attention so completely that he steps farther into the room despite feeling drawn against his will. Standing before Meira, he senses invisible shadows twisting and snarling around the weapon, then searches her face in alarm. His hesitant question about what she has done, followed by her sorrowful smile, connects the knife to an action or intention he fears, though this moment does not yet specify what she has done. The weapon thus functions as a concrete sign of danger while the meaning of that danger remains unspoken.
