Myrkur’s Enchanted Blade

Tide

Myrkur’s Enchanted Blade is the instrument at the center of Myrkur’s attempt to make Meira’s return to the sea depend on killing the new queen. Delivered to Meira at Perlkastel, it is framed both as a chance to recover her original form and life and as a weapon that could advance the Sea Witch’s claim to the seal.

Origin and Delivery

Myrkur tells Galahad Stormcrane that she sought out Meira’s sisters, who brought the enchanted blade to Meira while she stood on the lower balcony of Perlkastel. The account places the weapon in Meira’s possession through a family-mediated delivery arranged by Myrkur, rather than describing Meira seeking it out herself.

Purpose and Stakes

Myrkur presents the blade as a means for Meira to restore her body to its true mermaid form and return to her own realm. She contrasts that possibility with Meira’s short life so far: fifty years, against the roughly three hundred years a mermaid ought to live. The gift thus appears to promise Meira the chance to recover both her form and the rest of her rightful lifespan.

That promise carries a deadly condition. Myrkur says the blade is intended to kill the new queen, and claims that once Meira strikes the queen through the heart, she will return to the sea. Myrkur further connects the proposed killing to her own aim: after arranging for the seal to pass to the Elfin-Blood, who could hold it upon marrying a king, she expects Meira’s attack to leave the seal within her reach.

Conflict and Narrative Role

Galahad reacts to the revelation with disbelief and insists that Meira would never kill the queen. Myrkur counters by claiming intimate knowledge of Meira’s desires, including her wish to live and her hatred of the queen for marrying the man Meira loves. The blade therefore becomes the focus of a dispute over whether Meira’s longing for life and heartbreak can be turned into action against another person.

The evidence establishes the blade’s intended use and the danger attached to it, but does not show Meira wielding it. Its significance in this encounter lies in the choice Myrkur has arranged and in Galahad’s uncertainty about what Meira will do: the promised restoration of her life is bound to the Sea Witch’s effort to regain the seal.
