Scale of the Dragon King of Gormland
TideThe Scale of the Dragon King of Gormland is a glimmering blue scale with royal protective magic, passed from Galahad Stormcrane to Meira and then, at Meira’s request, to Beatrix. Its prescribed journey—from pendant to the firstborn who ascends the throne—makes the scale both a protective object and a material link between successive rulers and guardians of the Seal of Mhuirlan.
Appearance and Enchantment
When Galahad places the scale in Beatrix’s hand, she turns it over and looks at its blue glimmer. He identifies it as a scale from the dragon king of Gormland and explains that it bears royal, protective magic. Beatrix already has strength through her elvish blood, he says, but wearing the scale will make her stronger still.
Transfer from Meira to Beatrix
The scale reaches Beatrix through Galahad, who tells her that he had given it to Meira and that Meira wanted Beatrix to have it. The transfer is therefore not merely a gift from Galahad: it carries Meira’s expressed wish and places the enchanted object with Beatrix as she is named guardian of the Seal of Mhuirlan. The scene joins personal protection to a change in who bears responsibility for the seal.
Inheritance and Significance
Galahad instructs Beatrix to put the scale on a chain and wear it, then pass it to her firstborn when that child ascends to the throne. This condition ties the object’s use to royal succession rather than to an immediate exchange alone. The scale’s protective magic is meant to strengthen Beatrix, while its onward passage provides a tangible continuity across generations of rulers and seal guardians.
