Shuttle Launch Incident

On the shuttle, Ender is singled out by Graff, who praises him as the best of the launch, making the other boys resent him. One boy, Bernard, begins to torment Ender, hitting him on the head. Ender, in self-defense, grabs Bernard's arm and pulls him, causing him to fly across the cabin and break his arm. This incident establishes Ender's reputation as dangerous and further isolates him from the other boys. Graff uses the incident to reinforce Ender's isolation, telling him that he must be so good that the others cannot ignore him. Ender feels guilty and fears he is becoming like Peter, a violent person.
