Dual-Fade Access Restriction for the Dreamscape

Pleasure

The Dual-Fade Access Restriction for the Dreamscape is a safeguard that limits who may reach the Dreamscape through a controlled, two-stage Fade. By reserving that route for priests and handmaidens who guard the realm, it seeks to protect dreamers from those who might exploit the Dreamscape’s power and turn a vulnerable person’s dream into a weapon.

Access and the Two Routes

A person of Daenaira’s kind can enter the Dreamscape in two ways: by dreaming while asleep or by Fading first to the Shadowscape and then Fading again into the Dreamscape. The restriction applies to this second route. Only priests and handmaidens charged with guarding the realm are permitted to make the double Fade; ordinary dreaming remains a distinct, uncontrolled way of entering.

The Danger the Restriction Addresses

The rule exists because a dreamer is vulnerable in the Dreamscape. Someone who enters through a double Fade with criminal intent could learn to control the realm’s power and bend it to personal will. Left unchecked, such an abuser could subject people of any race or breed to cruel, mind-destroying nightmares, experiences made especially dangerous by their mixture of reality and dream. The restriction therefore protects not only a private dream but the mental integrity of those who dream.

Control, Memory, and Guarding the Realm

The two routes differ in what an entrant can retain and command. Someone who Fades into the Dreamscape keeps memory and control; someone who arrives through sleep experiences a more random dream, is unlikely to remember it, and cannot draw on Dreamscape’s powers any more or less than another dreamer. Daenaira is still a fledgling in this work, but the distinction establishes why controlled access matters: the route reserved to guardians offers capacities that ordinary dream entry does not.

Magnus has protected the Dreamscape from abusers for centuries, mastering its power to bring down those he hunted. His responsibility extends across all the scapes, and Daenaira now protects them beside him. The restriction thus forms part of a broader guardianship: access to dangerous power is limited, while those entrusted with the realm use that power to defend it.
