Gatsby studies at Oxford after the war
After the Armistice, Gatsby is sent to Oxford University for five months as part of a program for officers. This experience gives him the veneer of an Oxford education, which he later uses to bolster his persona. While at Oxford, he receives Daisy's letter announcing her marriage to Tom Buchanan, a devastating blow that fuels his determination to win her back.
