Nick Carraway decides to go East

After returning from World War I, Nick Carraway feels restless in the Middle West and decides to go East to learn the bond business. His father agrees to finance him for a year, and Nick moves to New York, renting a small house in West Egg, Long Island, next to the mysterious Jay Gatsby's enormous mansion. This decision sets the entire story in motion, as Nick becomes the narrator and central observer of the summer's events.
