Palmare
WaspPalmare is a small village twenty den south of Pertane, a brief waypoint on Mowry’s flight rather than a destination where he stops. Its quiet appearance and the unseen turnoff beyond it make the village a useful passage between the road and a less direct route toward the Pertane-Valapan artery.
Setting and Position
Palmare lies twenty den south of Pertane. The narrative describes it as small and sleepy, set beside a badly surfaced, twisting road that continues beyond the village. A crude track branching off that road leads toward the Pertane-Valapan artery, placing Palmare at a junction in Mowry’s escape route.
Mowry’s Passage
When a car draws alongside Mowry, its co-driver asks where he is heading, and Mowry names Palmare. Later, maintaining a reckless speed on the twisting road, he shoots through the village expecting local vigilantes to fire on him. Nothing happens: only a few faces look out from windows. The contrast between his expectation of attack and the village’s subdued response makes the passage a moment of apparent calm amid flight.
Nobody sees Mowry turn off the road a little beyond Palmare and take the crude track toward the Pertane-Valapan artery. The village’s narrative importance lies in that unnoticed departure: it lets him pass through without being challenged and conceal the change in his route.
