Alapertane

Wasp

Alapertane, or Little Pertane, is the largest and nearest port on Jaimec. A population of a quarter of a million and its position between the capital and the cave make it a substantial urban setting; its waterfront also figures in James Mowry’s clandestine movements through the city.

Setting and Location

Alapertane lies forty den west of the capital and seventy den northwest of the cave. The narrative identifies it by its port and relative position, establishing it as a major point on Jaimec rather than a remote settlement. Its scale is underscored by the stated population of 250,000.

The Waterfront

Mowry heads directly for the waterfront without stopping to eat. He leaves the dyno in a shipping company’s private car park, then approaches the gates of the first dock on foot. A policeman is standing by the gates as Mowry looks toward him through his spectacles; the brief encounter places guarded access and commercial infrastructure in the foreground of the harbor scene.

Movement Through the City

In a later stretch of the sequence, Mowry walks toward the glow of the airport. A bus overtakes him, travels into the heavy gloom, and stops with its braking lights briefly shining. Mowry advances cautiously until he is within twenty yards of it. The scene presents Alapertane as a space Mowry must navigate on foot and under observation, linking the port’s working edges with the darkness around the airport.
