Dimmesdale's Revelation of His Sin

After the sermon, Dimmesdale, weak and dying, walks to the scaffold where Hester and Pearl are standing. He calls them to him, and with Hester's support, he ascends the scaffold. He reveals the scarlet letter on his own breast, confessing his sin to the horrified crowd. He then dies in Hester's arms, finally achieving a moment of truth and peace.
