Hester Confronts Chillingworth

Hester meets Roger Chillingworth on the peninsula and tells him she will reveal his identity to Dimmesdale. Chillingworth, now fully transformed into a fiendish figure, argues that his revenge is justified. Hester pleads with him to forgive, but he refuses, saying it is not in his power. He acknowledges that the scarlet letter has avenged him.
