The Meteor Appears

A meteor lights up the sky, forming the shape of a scarlet letter 'A'. Dimmesdale interprets it as a sign of his own guilt. He also sees Roger Chillingworth standing nearby, watching him. The next day, the sexton tells Dimmesdale that the meteor was interpreted as a sign of Governor Winthrop's death, meaning 'Angel'.
