Mowry
WaspMowry is shown working through manufactured identities: papers and carefully adjusted appearance let him present himself as different kinds of Sirian, while a brief coded introduction identifies his presence on Jaimec to a contact. These details make disguise not just concealment but a practical means of movement and communication.
Identity and Assumed Roles
At one point, Mowry has become a middle-aged, coarse-looking, somewhat overfed Sirian farmer. His documents support the persona: he is Rathan Gusulkin, a grain-grower. The identity is made persuasive through the combination of physical presentation and papers, rather than through a name alone.
In another transformation, platinum accessories—a watch-fob and a wrist-bangle holding an ornamental identity-disc—make him look like somebody several cuts above the Sirian average. A new set of documents confirms the change in status and identifies him as Colonel Krasna Halopti. The contrast between the farmer and the colonel shows the range of social positions his disguises are designed to pass as; the evidence does not specify how long he uses either identity.
Meeting with Skriva
Mowry arranges to meet Skriva at Marker den-8 at the ten-time hour. The car arrives precisely on time. Mowry waits outside in the darkness, with only fields and trees around him, until the vehicle rolls up with its headlights glaring and Skriva gets out. The carefully specified rendezvous point and punctual arrival give the meeting a procedural precision, while the isolated roadside setting keeps the encounter apart from the surrounding settlements.
Contact and Presence on Jaimec
In a later contact, a gravelly voice invites the caller to come in and get ready to tape. Mowry responds with the identifying phrase “JM on Jaimec,” then speaks rapidly and at length. He says that Pertane is not tenable until conditions quieten down, beginning a report that continues beyond the available excerpt. The contrast between this compressed identification and his extended speech captures two different functions of communication: first establishing who is speaking and where, then conveying operational information.
