Sagramatholou

Wasp

Sagramatholou is an agent whose brief appearance becomes a consequential turning point in James Mowry’s escape: Mowry kills him in an alley, takes his badge, and later passes it to Skriva as a usable disguise. The killing also leaves a trail of alarm in Alapertane, where the discovery of Mowry’s explosive device signals that Sagramatholou’s killer is still within the area.

Introduction and Identification

Sagramatholou’s name is given during an exchange in which Mowry asks who he is speaking to; the name prompts Mowry to associate him with the K17 system, whose inhabitants use compound names. The scene establishes his identity through that brief recognition rather than through a personal history or description of his role beyond his status as an agent.

The Alley Killing

Mowry encounters Sagramatholou while he is trying to work a lock. Looking back down the alley and seeing nobody, Mowry draws his gun and confronts him for kicking an old man who was already down. Sagramatholou admits the act with enthusiasm, making the cruelty of the exchange explicit. When he turns toward Mowry, the gun gives a sound no louder than an air pistol. Sagramatholou remains standing, a blue hole in his forehead, before his knees give way.

The scene’s sharp reversal—from Sagramatholou’s casual admission to his sudden death—makes his conduct the immediate focus of Mowry’s confrontation. The evidence does not provide a fuller account of Sagramatholou’s motives or background; his characterization rests on his role as an agent, his treatment of the fallen man, and the abruptness of his killing.

Badge and Aftermath

Mowry later gives Skriva Sagramatholou’s badge and tells him to keep it inside his jacket and display it if necessary. Skriva handles it with open surprise and asks where Mowry obtained it. The badge thus outlasts its owner as a practical instrument in Mowry’s effort to move through danger, connecting Sagramatholou’s death to the next stage of the escape.

The danger also spreads beyond the alley. After Mowry disposes of his case by leaving it at the entrance to the main post office, discovery of his explosive device warns Alapertane that Sagramatholou’s killer is somewhere within the town’s bounds. Sagramatholou’s death therefore has a double consequence: his badge helps Mowry and Skriva, while the search for his killer tightens the threat around Mowry.
