Linda Lee is Henry Dorsett Case’s former lover, a twenty-year-old addict whose need for drugs and a ticket home becomes entangled with Case’s guilt, resentment, and inability to remain attached to the physical world. She first appears as a frightened, vulnerable presence in Night City, but her disappearance and death continue to shape Case long after her body is gone. Recreated within Neuromancer’s constructed world, Linda becomes both a painful memory and an active defense against Case’s escape into cyberspace: her simulated existence forces him to distinguish measured behavior from unknowable thought, and to accept that leaving her behind is also part of winning.
