Level nightclub

Retribution

Level nightclub matters to the Cupid investigation as both a possible point of contact between William Rupert Bantling and his victims and a setting where investigators believed a person could leave unnoticed in a crowded, distracted room. The club was among the nightlife venues scrutinized by Dominick Falconetti and Manny Alvarez, but staff recognition of Bantling did not establish his presence there on any night a woman disappeared.

Role in the investigation

On a Saturday night, Dominick Falconetti and Manny Alvarez revisited Level and other clubs where women pictured on The Wall had last been seen. This time they brought a color lineup and reinterviewed bartenders and lounge staff. Level was among the venues whose employees were asked to identify Bantling and clarify whether he had been there when any of the women vanished.

Bantling as a frequent customer

Several members of the wait staff recognized Bantling as a regular at the clubs. They remembered him as consistently well dressed and accompanied by a different young blonde woman on different occasions. That recurring pattern made Level relevant to the investigation: it placed him within the nightlife circuit associated with the victims and aligned with details investigators were assembling about his preferences and habits. It did not, however, connect him to a particular victim.

The proposed method and its limits

Dominick Falconetti considered whether Bantling could have used Haldol (haloperidol), originally prescribed to Bantling, to subdue a woman and lead her out of Level without attracting notice. The possibility was discussed by comparison with drugs used to incapacitate clubgoers; it remained an investigative theory, not a demonstrated account of what happened inside the club. The crowded environment and the possibility that some patrons were impaired offered a plausible explanation for how an exit might escape attention, but the evidence presented does not identify a witness who saw Bantling leave with any of the victims.

What staff could not establish

Despite recognizing Bantling as a frequent customer, Level's staff could not place him with any of the women on The Wall. Nor could anyone definitively locate him at the right club on the right night for a disappearance. The distinction is central to the venue's significance: Level supplied a credible investigative lead and a possible setting for the hypothesized approach, but recognition of a regular customer was not proof that he had taken a victim from there.
