Port Royale

Retribution

Port Royale is the apartment complex where C.J. Townsend lives. Its domestic routines include help from a neighbor who looks after C.J.’s pets, but after the trial verdict the complex’s parking lot becomes a staging ground for news crews, compromising the privacy and security of her home.

Setting and Residents

C.J.’s apartment is part of a building where Mrs Cromsby, an elderly resident in apartment 10-16 below her, takes care of Lucy and Tibby while C.J. is working. When media attention intensifies, Mrs Cromsby advises C.J. to keep a low profile, underscoring the neighborly support available within the complex.

Media Intrusion and Consequences

After the verdict, reporters discover C.J.’s carefully guarded address and wait in the Port Royale parking lot for her return. Their bright blue Channel 7 News Team trucks have passed the security guard, who has apparently been paid to look the other way; a boom microphone is also positioned near C.J.’s front door. Unable to go home through this press encampment, she remains at her office late at night and calls hotels in search of somewhere to stay for a few days. Port Royale thus shifts from private residence to exposed public address, with the attention surrounding the case disrupting C.J.’s ordinary refuge.
