Carolyn's Diagnosis and Decline

Ralph Roberts's wife, Carolyn, is diagnosed with a brain tumor. Over the following months, her condition worsens despite treatments. Ralph becomes increasingly aware of a ticking sound, which he interprets as a deathwatch, signaling her impending death. He begins taking long walks to cope with the stress and grief.
