The Initial Clash

Two Worldviews The Apostles' Claims The Apostles of Flame, led by Mondior 71, preach that the world will end on Theptar 19 due to divine punishment. They use the Book of Revelations as their authority. The Scientists' Response Athor 77 and his team dismiss the Apostles as crackpots. They base their own prediction on astronomical calculations and gravitational theory. The Public Perception Most people ignore both groups, but the Apostles gain followers through fear. Theremon's columns later conflate the two, damaging the scientists' credibility.

The Unholy Alliance

A Pragmatic Deal The Meeting Athor meets with Folimun 66 to exchange data. Athor gets ancient astronomical records; Folimun gets scientific validation of the prophecy. The Fallout Theremon sees this as a betrayal and begins his campaign of ridicule. The alliance deepens the conflict between science and superstition. The Irony Both sides are correct about the eclipse, but their motivations and methods are opposed. The conflict is unresolved until the eclipse itself.

The Eclipse Validates Both

A Bitter Victory The Scientists' Triumph The eclipse occurs exactly as predicted. The astronomers' calculations are vindicated, but their equipment is destroyed and many are killed. The Apostles' Triumph The Apostles' prophecy is fulfilled. They gain immense credibility and use it to consolidate power. Folimun emerges as the de facto ruler. The Resolution After the eclipse, the conflict shifts. The surviving scientists must decide whether to oppose or join the Apostles. Theremon and Siferra choose to join, hoping to influence from within.
