A New Authority Altinol's Takeover Altinol 111, a former executive, seizes the university Sanctuary and forms the Fire Patrol. He imposes a strict ban on fire, except for his own group. The Mission The Patrol confiscates fire-making equipment and punishes violators. They aim to prevent further fires but also to establish political control. Siferra's Involvement Siferra joins the Patrol for a time, but she becomes disillusioned with Altinol's authoritarian methods.

A Patchwork of States The New Borders Along the Great Southern Highway, small provinces spring up: Restoration Province, Six Suns Province, Godland, Daylight, etc. Each has its own rules and Search stations.
