The Killing of Balik

A Violent Act The Return to the Office Siferra 89, still in shock from the eclipse, returns to her office at the university. She finds her colleague Balik 338 there, who has also survived. The Assault Balik, driven mad by the Stars, tries to rape her. Siferra fights back, hitting him with a club. She strikes repeatedly until he is dead. The Aftermath Siferra is horrified by what she has done but feels no guilt. She takes the archaeological charts and flees into the forest, beginning her life as a survivor.

Joining the Fire Patrol

A New Allegiance The Sanctuary Siferra wanders to the university Sanctuary, now occupied by Altinol 111 and his Fire Patrol. They force her to strip and search her for fire-making equipment. The Offer Altinol, impressed by her composure, offers her a position in the Patrol. She accepts, seeing it as a way to survive and impose order. The Patrol's Mission Siferra becomes an officer, enforcing the ban on fire. She patrols the forest, confiscating lighters and punishing fire-starters. She meets Theremon again when she rescues him from a mob.

The Journey with Theremon

A Growing Bond The Decision to Leave Siferra decides to leave the Fire Patrol and travel to Amgando with Theremon. They steal supplies and weapons and set out on the Great Southern Highway. The Challenges They face many dangers: hostile Searchers, burned-out towns, and the constant threat of violence. They grow closer, sharing their fears and hopes. The Alliance with the Apostles After being captured by Folimun 66, Siferra initially resists but eventually agrees to join the Apostles, convinced by Theremon that it is the only way to rebuild civilization. She accepts the new order but refuses to wear the robe.
