Bus Crash in Alabama

Paul Edgecombe and his wife Janice are traveling by bus to their granddaughter's graduation in Florida. A tire blows, and the bus is hit by a fertilizer truck, causing a horrific crash. Janice is killed instantly in Edgecombe's arms. Edgecombe, miraculously unharmed, screams for help and sees a vision of John Coffey in the shadows of an underpass. He realizes that Coffey's healing touch has made him resistant to disease and injury, but it could not save Janice. The event is a profound trauma for Edgecombe, who has outlived his wife and most of his friends. He is left to live a long, lonely life, haunted by the memory of Coffey and the Green Mile.
