John Coffey Heals Paul's Infection

Paul Edgecombe is suffering from a severe urinary tract infection that causes him excruciating pain. After William Wharton's violent arrival on the block, John Coffey urgently calls Edgecombe into his cell. Despite the danger, Edgecombe enters, and Coffey places his hand on Edgecombe's groin. A jolt of energy passes through Edgecombe, and the infection is instantly cured. Coffey then coughs out a cloud of black insects that turn white and disappear. Edgecombe is stunned and realizes Coffey possesses a miraculous healing power. This event transforms Edgecombe's understanding of Coffey and sets the stage for the later attempt to save Melinda Moores.
