night after Delacroix's execution
Night Journey to Heal Melinda Moores
Paul Edgecombe, Brutus Howell, Harry Terwilliger, and Dean Stanton devise a plan to take John Coffey out of prison to heal Warden Hal Moores's wife, Melinda, who is dying of a brain tumor. They drug William Wharton, lock Percy in the restraint room, and smuggle Coffey out through the tunnel. They drive to the Moores' house in Harry's truck. Coffey enters Melinda's room, kisses her, and inhales the tumor from her body. She is instantly cured, her color returns, and she is able to walk. Coffey, however, is left gray and exhausted, having absorbed the disease. The miracle is successful, but it takes a heavy toll on Coffey.
