Louis Exhumes Gage's Body

Consumed by grief and the memory of Church's resurrection, Louis decides to bring his son back. He sends Rachel and Ellie to Chicago, then buys grave-robbing tools. That night, he breaks into Pleasantview Cemetery, digs up Gage's grave, and removes his son's body from the coffin. The task is gruesome and horrifying, but Louis is driven by a desperate, irrational hope. He wraps the body in a tarpaulin and drives back to Ludlow, intending to bury Gage in the Micmac burying ground.
