after Allie's return, spanning decades
Marriage and Family Life
Allie and Noah marry in a small chapel. They have five children, four of whom survive. Allie becomes a famous painter, one of the best southern painters of the twentieth century. Noah supports her art, building her a studio. They raise their children together, experiencing joys and sorrows, including the death of their four-year-old son. Noah writes letters to Allie throughout their marriage, expressing his love. They grow old together, their hair turning white, their faces lined. They move to Creekside Extended Care Facility after Allie's Alzheimer's diagnosis. Noah reads to her every day from the notebook he wrote, telling their story, hoping to bring her back to him.
