Library Attack by Old Men

Alex goes to the Public Biblio to find a book on painless suicide. He is recognized by the old professor he attacked at the beginning of the novel. The professor and other elderly men in the library attack Alex, beating him. Alex is unable to defend himself due to his conditioning. He calls for the police, who arrive and rescue him. The attack is a direct consequence of his past violence, and it shows that his victims have not forgotten. The police, however, are not the protectors he hopes for.
