The Construction

Engineering a Flood Ben's Idea After meeting Ben Hanscom, the Losers decided to build a dam in the Barrens. Ben, who had a natural talent for engineering, designed a cofferdam using boards, rocks, and mud. The group worked together, and the dam began to hold back the Kenduskeag Stream, creating a large pool. The Success The dam was a success, flooding a significant area. The Losers were thrilled with their accomplishment. However, the backed-up water caused problems in the town's drainage system, leading to an investigation. The Intervention Mr. Nell, a local policeman, discovered the dam and ordered them to dismantle it. He was impressed by their work but warned them about the dangers of the Barrens. The experience taught them the importance of teamwork and the consequences of their actions.

The Dismantling

Taking It Down The Order Mr. Nell ordered the Losers to tear down the dam. They worked together to dismantle it, learning that even great achievements must sometimes be undone. The experience was bittersweet but strengthened their bond. The Lesson The dam-building taught the Losers that they could accomplish difficult tasks when they worked together.
