House on Neibolt Street

The House on Neibolt Street stands at 29 Neibolt Street, just outside the Derry trainyards, a dilapidated saltbox house with peeling pink paint, boarded windows, a sagging porch, and an overgrown yard. Its cellar contains a broken window that provides access to a network of drains and sewers, making it a key terrestrial access point for the entity known as It. The house is a place of concentrated evil, where the boundary between the ordinary world and the entity's subterranean domain is thin, and where the creature can manifest in forms drawn from the deepest fears of those who enter.

The Leper and the Werewolf

Eddie Kaspbrak first encountered the entity at this house in the spring of 1958. While exploring under the porch, he saw a leprous figure with rotting flesh and a silver clown suit crawl from a cellar window, offering a "blowjob" and claiming that Eddie's friends were already "down here." Eddie fled in terror, and the encounter left him with recurring nightmares. Later that summer, Bill Denbrough and Richie Tozier returned to the house to investigate. They entered the cellar through the same broken window and were attacked by a werewolf wearing a Derry High School jacket with the name "RICHIE TOZIER" stitched on it. Bill shot the creature with his father's Walther pistol, and Richie drove it back with sneezing powder and a commanding voice, allowing them to escape on Bill's bicycle, Silver.

The Silver Slug Confrontation

On July 25, 1958, the entire Losers' Club—Bill, Beverly, Ben, Eddie, Richie, Stan, and Mike—entered the house to confront It directly. They crawled under the porch and through the cellar window, finding the interior strangely enlarged and disorienting, with shifting perspectives and a pervasive sense of wrongness. In an upstairs bathroom, the creature emerged from a broken toilet drain as a werewolf. Beverly Marsh fired a silver slug from Bill's Bullseye slingshot, striking the creature in the snout and driving it back into the drain. The house then seemed to shrink back to its normal size, and the Losers escaped, having wounded the entity but not destroyed it.

The 1985 Murder and Final Confrontation

In May 1985, the body of a fifth-grade boy named John Feury was found under the porch of the house, confirming that It had returned to Derry after a 27-year cycle. The postman discovered the body, and the boy's legs were missing, though the medical examiner determined he had died of fright. Later that same month, the adult Losers returned to the house as part of their final confrontation with It. They descended into the cellar and followed the drain system to the entity's lair deep under the city, where they ultimately killed It in its spider form. The house on Neibolt Street thus stands as a central landmark in the Losers' battle against the ancient evil, a place where childhood terror was faced and, ultimately, overcome.
