As they move deeper, the passageways grow larger and stranger, taking on an almost cathedral-like quality, lit by a sickly green-yellow glow that seems to emanate from the walls themselves. They find the bodies of Victor Criss and Belch Huggins, Henry Bowers's friends who had been killed in the sewers during the first confrontation. The lair of It is a vast, cyclopean chamber, its floor littered with the bones of countless children. At its center, a small, fairytale-like door, no more than three feet high, marks the entrance to the entity's inner sanctum. Richie is nearly lost, but Eddie Kaspbrak, with his broken arm and his aspirator, rushes forward, spraying the creature's eye with what he imagines to be battery acid, buying them the crucial moment they need.

Eddie's Sacrifice and the Killing Blow

Eddie's attack distracts the Spider, allowing Bill and Richie to return from the void. But the creature's jaws snap shut, severing Eddie's arm and mortally wounding him. As Eddie dies in Beverly's arms, Bill and Richie pursue the wounded Spider into a dark tunnel.
