He began researching Derry's violent history, uncovering a pattern of horrific events every twenty-seven years. He interviewed old-timers, read forgotten newspapers, and compiled a notebook of atrocities, from the Bradley Gang shootout to the fire at the Black Spot. The Cycle Mike realized that the murders of children in 1957-58 were part of a recurring cycle. He understood that It was a real entity that fed on fear and that the Losers had only wounded it, not killed it. He waited, knowing that one day he would have to call his friends back. The Preparation Mike prepared for the return by gathering supplies: miner's helmets, flashlights, and maps of the sewer system. He also kept tabs on the other Losers, knowing their addresses and phone numbers. When the murders began again in 1984, he knew the time had come.

Summoning the Losers The Decision After the murder of Adrian Mellon and the discovery of George Denbrough's photograph at a crime scene, Mike knew he could wait no longer. He called each of the Losers, reminding them of their promise. The calls triggered a resurgence of forgotten memories and the reappearance of the scars on their palms. The Reactions Each Loser reacted differently: Bill was in England, Richie in California, Ben in Nebraska, Eddie in New York, Beverly in Chicago, and Stanley in Atlanta. Stanley, unable to face the horror, committed suicide. The others, despite their fear, agreed to return to Derry. The Reunion Mike arranged a reunion lunch at the Jade of the Orient restaurant. The six surviving Losers met and shared their stories, rekindling their bond. Mike revealed the extent of the new cycle of murders and the evidence that It was active again. They voted to stay and fight.

The Hospital Mike was rushed to Derry Home Hospital, where he underwent surgery. While recovering, he was nearly killed by a possessed nurse, but the psychic power of the Losers' circle saved him. He survived, but his leg was permanently damaged. The Aftermath After the final battle, Mike remained in Derry, continuing his work as a librarian. He wrote his notebook, documenting the events, but as the forgetting set in, the names and details began to fade. He accepted this as the price of peace.
