Wally's Spa is a bar in Derry, Maine, situated in the rough district known as Hell's Half-Acre. It is a recurring location in the novel, appearing in historical accounts of the Bradley Gang shootout and the Claude Heroux massacre, and as a site of grotesque supernatural phenomena during the final confrontation with It in 1985.

Location and History

Wally's Spa was one of several bars in Derry's Hell's Half-Acre, a district of blind pigs and rough establishments frequented by lumberjacks and loggers. During the 1929 shootout with the Bradley Gang, the bar was a known drinking spot for the town's rougher element. In 1905, it was the site of the Claude Heroux massacre, where Heroux, a French-Canadian lumberman, used a double-bitted axe to kill four men at a card table while other patrons continued drinking at the bar, seemingly oblivious to the violence. The bar's history is intertwined with Derry's cycle of violence and the presence of It.

The 1985 Storm and Supernatural Events

During the catastrophic storm of May 31st, 1985, Wally's Spa became a focal point of supernatural horror. As the storm raged, the bar's seven beer taps—three Bud, two Narragansett, one Schlitz, and one Miller Lite—suddenly began to flow with blood instead of beer. The blood was followed by hair and chunks of flesh spurting from the taps. One of the beer kegs under the counter exploded, and greenish smoke drifted from the cupboards. The bar's windows blew out, showering the street with glass. The janitor, Vincent "Boogers" Taliendo, witnessed these events and fled the town in terror. The destruction of the bar was part of a larger pattern of chaos and collapse that accompanied the final battle with It, including the explosion of the Derry Mall and the collapse of downtown Derry into the Canal.
