Battle of Mons
1919The Battle of Mons is mentioned as a British victory heard about during a wartime voyage toward Liverpool. The novel does not narrate the battle itself: its place here is in the news reaching the ship, where the distant conflict becomes part of the crew’s immediate, unsettled present.
