Mr. Sleeper
StrikeMr. Sleeper is remembered as Tori Sleeper’s father and as a defender of Chinicook, the island he loved. His death, in another life and time, became the reason his family later set aside the place in his honor.
Identity and Background
The evidence identifies Mr. Sleeper through his relationship to Tori and his devotion to Chinicook. In another life and time, invaders had taken over their world, and he died trying to protect the island he loved from them.
Death and Legacy
Mr. Sleeper’s death ties his family’s later home to the island’s history of invasion. Tori and her family purchased remote Chinicook, on the north side of Pemberwick Island, at the spot associated with his attempt to defend it.
Commemoration
Tori and her family built a seaside home on the property and kept the rest of Chinicook as an unspoiled nature preserve in Mr. Sleeper’s honor. The preserve makes remembrance tangible: the island he tried to protect is also the place his family chose to leave largely untouched.
