Merry and Pippin's Adventure with the Ents

Capture by the Orcs The Orc Raid After Boromir's death, Merry and Pippin are taken by a band of Orcs. They are carried across Rohan, enduring harsh treatment. The Escape Attempt During a quarrel among the Orcs, Pippin cuts his bonds and leaves a brooch as a clue. They manage to escape during the Battle of the Rohirrim against the Orcs. Into Fangorn Forest They flee into the dark Fangorn Forest, where they meet the Ent Treebeard. This meeting changes their fate.

Meeting Treebeard The Ent's Curiosity Treebeard discovers the hobbits and learns their story. He is intrigued by their presence and the news of the outside world. The Entmoot Treebeard calls an Entmoot to decide what to do about Saruman's destruction of the forest. The Ents are slow to decide, but the hobbits' tale of the Orcs stirs their anger. The Decision to March After three days, the Ents decide to march on Isengard. Merry and Pippin accompany them, riding on Treebeard's shoulders.

The Destruction of Isengard

The Destruction of Isengard The Ents' Attack The Ents storm Isengard, tearing down the walls and flooding the valley. Saruman is trapped in Orthanc. The Hobbits' Role Merry and Pippin are entrusted with guarding the gate and later welcome the riders from Rohan. They find provisions and enjoy the victory. The Aftermath Saruman is parleyed and defeated. The Ents take over the valley, and the hobbits are reunited with Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli.
