Doriath

Doriath is the name of the hidden Elven kingdom of the First Age, a realm of forest and enchantment that stands in the deep past of Middle-earth, long before the events of the War of the Ring. Its story is not told directly in the pages of The Lord of the Rings, but it is invoked as part of the ancient history that shapes the world, a name that carries the weight of ages. The kingdom is remembered as a place of great beauty and greater tragedy, the heart of the Elven resistance against the first Dark Lord, and the stage for some of the most sorrowful tales of the Elder Days. Its memory lingers in the text as a measure of what has been lost, a golden age that has faded into legend, and its fate is intertwined with the very objects and powers that drive the later story of the Ring.
