Ered Wethrin

Ered Wethrin, the Mountains of Shadow, is a formidable mountain range in the northwest of Middle-earth, a natural rampart that defines the geography of the Elder Days. It forms the western and southern walls of the highland region of Hithlum, separating it from the coastal lands of Nevrast to the west and the vast plains of Beleriand to the south. The range is a place of immense historical weight, its passes and slopes having witnessed the rise and fall of kingdoms, the clash of armies, and the tragic fates of heroes and kings during the wars against Morgoth in the First Age. Its very name, 'Mountains of Shadow', speaks to its role as a boundary between the fading light of the Elven realms and the ever-encroaching darkness of the north, making it a potent symbol of the long defeat that defines the age.
