Lockhart's First Lesson

Gilderoy Lockhart's first lesson is a disaster. He gives the class a quiz about his own life and achievements, then releases a cage of Cornish pixies, which immediately wreak havoc. The pixies destroy the classroom, grab Neville Longbottom by the ears, and throw Lockhart's own wand out the window. Lockhart proves utterly incompetent, unable to control the situation, and flees the room, leaving Harry, Ron, and Hermione to round up the pixies. The lesson reveals Lockhart's true nature as a fraud and a charlatan, much to the students' dismay. Hermione, however, remains impressed by his books, setting up a conflict between her faith in his written persona and the reality of his incompetence.
