The Confrontation with Lockhart

Harry and Ron go to Lockhart's office to demand his help, only to find him packing to flee the school. Lockhart admits that he is a fraud who has been taking credit for other wizards' deeds and erasing their memories. He attempts to use a Memory Charm on Harry and Ron, but Harry disarms him with the Expelliarmus spell. Forced to cooperate, Lockhart is marched to Moaning Myrtle's bathroom, where Harry, using Parseltongue, opens the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets: a pipe hidden beneath a sink. The trio, with Lockhart in tow, prepares to descend into the darkness to rescue Ginny and confront the monster.
