The Destruction of the Diary

As Harry lies dying from the Basilisk's venom, Fawkes cries on his wound, and his tears heal Harry completely. Tom Riddle, now vulnerable, tries to finish Harry off, but Fawkes drops the diary into Harry's lap. Harry, realizing the diary is the key to Riddle's power, stabs it with one of the Basilisk's fangs. The diary is destroyed, and Riddle's memory is vanquished, screaming as he fades away. Ginny wakes up, and Harry comforts her, telling her that Riddle is gone. The destruction of the diary breaks Voldemort's hold on Ginny and ends the threat of the Chamber of Secrets. Harry, Ginny, and the unconscious Lockhart are then rescued by Fawkes, who flies them back up the pipe.
