The Confrontation with Tom Riddle

Harry enters the main Chamber and finds Ginny lying motionless at the feet of a giant statue of Salazar Slytherin. He is confronted by Tom Riddle, who appears as a memory from the diary. Riddle reveals that he is Lord Voldemort, the Dark Lord who killed Harry's parents, and that he has been possessing Ginny through the diary, forcing her to open the Chamber and carry out the attacks. Riddle summons the Basilisk to kill Harry, but Fawkes the phoenix arrives, bringing the Sorting Hat, which contains the Sword of Godric Gryffindor. Fawkes blinds the Basilisk, and Harry uses the sword to kill it. However, Harry is poisoned by one of the Basilisk's fangs and appears to be dying.
