Darcy Discovers the Fugitives

Darcy, who had left Derbyshire shortly after Elizabeth, learns of Lydia's elopement. He takes it upon himself to find the couple, tracking them down in London through Mrs. Younge, Wickham's former accomplice. He then negotiates with Wickham, forcing him to marry Lydia by paying off his debts and providing a settlement. Darcy does all of this in secret, motivated by his love for Elizabeth and his sense of responsibility for not exposing Wickham's true character earlier.
