Ponyboy walks home alone

Ponyboy Curtis leaves the movie house and walks home alone through his East Side neighborhood. He reflects on his brothers, Darrel Curtis and Sodapop Curtis, and the gang. He is a greaser, and the Socs, the rich kids from the West Side, often jump greasers. He thinks about Johnny Cade, who was badly beaten by Socs months ago.
