Legolas and Gimli

The friendship between Legolas Greenleaf and Gimli, son of Glóin, stands as one of the most remarkable and symbolically charged relationships to emerge from the War of the Ring. An Elf of Mirkwood and a Dwarf of the Lonely Mountain, they belonged to two peoples whose ancient history was marked by deep mistrust, grievance, and open conflict. Yet from the very outset of their journey together, their bond defied expectation, growing from wary antagonism into a profound and affectionate comradeship that would become legendary among the Free Peoples. Their friendship not only survived the trials of the Quest but flourished, ultimately culminating in an unprecedented act of loyalty that saw Gimli, a Dwarf, sail into the West with his Elven friend — a fate no Dwarf had ever known before.
