in a bar in Bray Dunes
Rescuing the RAF Man
In a crowded bar, a group of soldiers is about to lynch an RAF man, blaming him for the lack of air cover. Corporal Mace intervenes by pretending to join the mob, picking up the terrified man and carrying him out of the bar under the pretext of drowning him. He then runs off with the man to safety. This act of quick thinking and bravery saves a life and demonstrates the solidarity that can exist even in the midst of a rout. It is a moment of heroism that contrasts with the general chaos and despair of the retreat.
