The Pig Capture

In a feverish, almost hallucinatory state, Robbie becomes convinced that capturing a pig is essential to his survival. He and Nettle chase a sow through the streets of Bray Dunes, eventually cornering it and returning it to its owner, an old gypsy woman. In return, she gives them water, wine, and food. This bizarre episode highlights Robbie's deteriorating mental and physical condition. The pig chase is a surreal, almost comic interlude that underscores the absurdity of war and the desperate measures people take to survive. It also shows Robbie's determination, however misguided, to complete a task.
