Its appearance marks a critical escalation in the manhunt, transforming a ground-level chase into an aerial pursuit that ultimately becomes the couple's means of escape.

Role in the Pursuit

After the palace issues a false kidnapping statement, the EC145 carries Agents Fonseca and Díaz from Bilbao to Barcelona, landing at El Prat Airport before they proceed to Casa Milà. The helicopter's speed allows the agents to arrive at the rooftop of Casa Milà just as Langdon and Vidal are attempting to flee, creating a dramatic standoff. Agent Díaz uses the helicopter's bullhorn to shout at Langdon, "PROFESSOR, GET IN THE HELICOPTER NOW!" as local police open fire, forcing the couple to board under fire.

Extraction from Sagrada Família

Following the spiral staircase confrontation in which Admiral Luis Ávila falls to his death, the EC145 is summoned again. Father Joaquim Beña relays a message to the pilot that both Guardia agents have been killed and that the future queen and Langdon require evacuation. The pilot initially considers the request impossible, but Beña directs him to the church's largest spire, whose foundation platform—a flat circular expanse nestled among the spires—provides a landing zone. The helicopter touches down on this platform, and Langdon, injured, is assisted aboard by Ambra Vidal.

Final Transport

Once airborne, Langdon directs the pilot to fly toward the fútbol stadium, using it as a landmark to locate the Gran Hotel Princesa Sofía. From there, he guides the helicopter to hover over the wooded area near the Palace of Pedralbes, eventually landing in a semicircular park on the eastern border of the block containing the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. The helicopter then lifts off and speeds toward the stadium to await further instructions, leaving Langdon and Vidal to enter the supercomputing center on foot.
