Friday night
Camping for the Night
The boys make camp near the tracks, cooking hamburger over a fire and smoking cigarettes. They talk about school, teachers, and the summer past. As darkness falls, they feel the weight of their mission and the loneliness of the woods. Gordon feels a sudden pity for Ray Brower, alone and dead in the dark.
