Discovery of Ray Brower's Body

Vern spots a pale hand sticking out of blackberry brambles. The boys find the body of Ray Brower, lying face down in a boggy area. He is barefoot, his Keds sneakers hanging in the bushes nearby. The sight is horrifying: ants crawl over him, his eyes are open, and he is bloated. The reality of death hits them hard.
